La Perla Azul is a beachfront home located 4.5 miles south of San Pedro’s town core. It is in a semi-secluded area with other homes on either side along the shore, but an unbuilt area with mangroves across the road.
The trip to & from town can be a fun adventure; remember that roads in Belize and on the island are not what you might be used to, as the route involves hard sand packed road as well as road made of cobbled pavers with several speed bumps en route. (The road is paved in town and up until you are 2 miles south of town; from then on it is hard packed sand.) But who needs to go fast when you’re on La Isla Bonita?
There is no address for the house, but there is only one main north/south road on the island. We are located on that road, about 4 miles south of the San Pedro airport (4.5 miles south of town core).
When you want to venture out of “seclusion” from your beach home, a 6 minute cart ride away on the lagoon is Playa de Sala, a boutique hotel with a rooftop bar offering fabulous sunsets, drinks & dinner. Just up the road about a mile is Stax Sunset/Container Bar for afternoon/evening drinks & pizza. Then 3/4 mile north of that (on the way to town) is the beachfront “Nest Grill” at Pelican Reef, which serves breakfast and lunch, and a little north of that, just across from Miramar Villas, are Happy’s Tequilaria (enjoy your favorite tequilas and catch a game 4-10 pm-ish Thursday-Monday) and the Black Orchid Restaurant (happy hour & dinner Tuesdays through Sunday). Then as you continue traveling towards town you’ll see Someplace South CafeBar (Tuesday thru Sunday; serves breakfast lunch, & dinner—plus did someone say mimosas?!–with live music at times). Marin’s mini-mart is not far from these restaurants, open 7 days a week (cash only), and of course there are many other grocery shopping and dining options on the way to and in town. Downtown San Pedro is ~25 minutes from the house by golf cart or taxi (US$25 cab fare one way).
We are kept safe and secure by our South Ambergris Caye Neighborhood Watch association, which is on 24 hour patrol and is always available in case of any kind of emergency, including medical.
Please note that while we are indeed right on the beach, there is a low seawall along the property plus turtle grass in the water all around the island (important to keep there for the sea life) and it can feel a bit odd were you to wade out (this is the case nearly wherever you are on the reef side of the island). For that reason, these are not known as swimming beaches for the most part, although many like to swim at Secret Beach (well north of town & on the other side of the island).
Also in Belize beachfront areas and piers are open to the public by law, so you may see people walking or biking through, including the occasional vendor.
